An Elements that stays silent with no spin often isn’t getting enough power through the USB port, or the drive’s motor/heads need attention. Try a port directly on the computer first; if it still won’t spin, stop and have it checked rather than forcing repeated attempts.
It was dropped and stopped reading
Because Elements drives are light and portable, a fall can leave the heads unable to read. If it stopped reading after a drop, power it off — this is clean-room work and recovers well when handled promptly.
